Bulls' Rose has surgery to repair torn ACL in left knee
Reggie Rose: "He's not sitting out the entire (2012-2013) year"
By K.C. Johnson, Tribune reporter - 3:37 p.m. CDT, May 12, 2012Let the rehabilitation begin.
Derrick Rose underwent successful surgery Saturday morning to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The surgery was first reported by the
Sun-Times.
"The surgery went great today. I just left him over at Rush (Hospital)," Reggie Rose said before being inducted into the Chicago Public League Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame during ceremonies at Hawthorne race course.
"Dr. (Brian) Cole did the surgery -- the doctor from the Chicago Bulls," Reggie said. "He did a great job. Derrick came out of it and so far everything is going well. My mom, my brothers, the whole family right now is over there to support him."
Cole, who is accomplished in such surgeries, has a strong familiarity with Rose and, just as important, a comfort level with Rose's family. Two sources said Cole spent multiple hours discussing Rose's injury and the road ahead of the Bulls' star in the direct aftermath of the MRI used to diagnose the injury, which occurred two weeks ago. That MRI also took place at Rush, where Cole works.
